Birds are curious creatures to me. I love to watch in envy as the turkey vultures fly--solo, against a clear blue backdrop. I envy the vantage point from which they view the neighborhood; they are fearless, independent, alone in the sky, then with friends. I've often chased them, and the moon. Flying insects bemuse me as well, dragonflies zip right up to our faces at our kids' soccer games, only to disappear as quickly.
I thought, what perfect creatures to work as spies among the worlds? Who would suspect that their most vulnerable moments could be usurped by the wasp flitting around, the vulture looming overhead?
